I think I'm the victim of a crypto scam: what should I do?
If you have questions about this, contact us at info@adopto.ca or call us.
Above all, do not send any more funds. We'll help you understand the situation and know what to do, including how to report the fraud to the police and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre. We can't promise to recover your funds, but we can help you avoid further mistakes.
Be especially wary of services that promise to “recover” your funds for a fee: it's often a second scam.
Someone is promising me crypto profits on an investment site: is it a scam?
This is a very common scenario: someone you've never met contacted you on social media, a messaging app or a dating site and is telling you about making profits on an investment platform. There is a high chance it's a scam.
Don't respond to the request and don't send any money. If you have questions about this, contact us at info@adopto.ca or call us.
I'm being asked to send crypto in exchange for a service: how can I avoid sending errors or getting scammed?
A cryptocurrency transaction is irreversible: once sent, it can't be canceled. Before paying, verify the identity of the person you're dealing with and check the history of the receiving address on a public blockchain explorer (for example mempool.space for Bitcoin or Etherscan for Ethereum), and don't let anyone rush you.
